Our Story
Over 15 years ago, my husband Ken and I began what would become a cherished family tradition—vacationing on 30A with our daughter, Geneva.
We loved every second of our vacations, but they were shadowed by a significant challenge: I’m in a wheelchair and need a home with no steps, roll-under restroom sinks, roll-in showers and most importantly easy access to the beach.
We would find houses that almost worked but the reservation process with VRBO and other booking services made it nearly impossible to know exactly what the house would be like. Most rental properties were not designed with accessibility in mind, featuring multiple steps and far from any handicap-accessible beach access.
Year after year, our search to find a place where we could enjoy the beach effortlessly left us disheartened. The lack of accessible options was not just an inconvenience; it was a barrier to experiencing the joy and relaxation that the beautiful shores of 30A can offer to everyone.
Driven by our love for family vacations, Ken and I made a bold decision—we would build our dream beach house. It wasn't just any house, but one thoughtfully designed with accessibility at its core. We envisioned a home without steps, where every family member could move freely. We also ensured it was just a short, smooth roll away from one of the few handicap-accessible beach accesses in the area.
Building our beach house was a labor of love, a symbol of our commitment to making the beach experience accessible and enjoyable for our family. Our home is equipped with wide doorways, a zero-step entry, and other essential features that promote independence and comfort for individuals with disabilities.
Now, after enjoying many wonderful family vacations at our specially designed home, Ken and I want to share this haven with others. We understand the struggles that families with similar needs go through and how meaningful an accessible vacation spot can be. Our hope is that Slim Shady Beach House in Seagrove Beach becomes a place where other families, regardless of mobility challenges, can create joyful and lasting memories, just like we have.
This house is more than just a building; it's a testament to the belief that everyone deserves access to beauty and leisure, and it's a dream realized for our family. We are thrilled to open our doors and share this special place with families who might think a beach vacation is beyond their reach.
